Two custom sportswear quotations are only comparable when they cover the same product, quantities and delivery scope. This checklist helps clubs and private-label brands in the USA, UK, Europe and Australia compare offers before approving a sample or bulk order.
1. Fix the specification first
Give each supplier the same garment reference, fabric requirements, measurement chart and artwork. Identify what is included in a set: a jersey-only price cannot be compared directly with a shirt-and-shorts quotation. Record the revision date of the brief so every supplier prices the same version.
2. Separate sample costs from bulk prices
Ask what the sample charge covers: pattern development, material, decoration, labels, revisions and shipping. Confirm whether any sample credit against a later order is offered; never assume it is included. A low unit price does not explain the cost of developing a new product.
3. Compare the same size and colour breakdown
A quantity spread across several designs may have different minimums from one design in a single colour. Ask whether MOQ applies per style, colour or material and whether different sizes can be combined. Make player names, numbers and size-specific changes explicit.
4. Check every price inclusion
- Fabric composition, weight and finish
- Garments included in each unit or set
- Printing, embroidery and other decoration
- Labels, hang tags and packaging
- Artwork or pattern development
- Shipping destination and service
- Quotation currency, validity and payment stages
Request an itemised total and a written list of exclusions. Confirm responsibility for destination charges with the supplier before payment.
5. Compare approval and delivery stages
Ask when the production estimate starts and whether sample development is included. Distinguish dispatch from arrival. For a tournament or launch, share the required arrival date and ask for separate milestones for artwork, sampling, approval, manufacturing and shipment.
6. Record quality and correction expectations
Agree the measurements, tolerances, artwork positions and finishing that will be checked. Ask how discrepancies are reported and handled. Keep the approved sample and written specification as the reference when reviewing bulk goods.
A simple comparison example
If one offer includes a printed jersey and another includes a jersey, shorts, individual names and shipping, first request matching scopes. Compare the total for the same approved brief before deciding which offer fits your budget.
